Chargebacks are processed according to global scheme rules. Once a dispute is received from the scheme, the merchant is notified and required to share supporting documents, which vary based on the nature of the dispute. The received documents are shared with the scheme, which provides them to the issuer. The dispute is settled if the merchant is not at fault as per the provided evidence. If the merchant is at fault, they must refund the customer. The issuer and merchant may opt for arbitration if they disagree. If the merchant loses the arbitration, they must refund the transaction and bear a penalty of $400. If the issuer loses, the issuer bears the penalty, and the merchant keeps the transaction funds.
